While most of these laws were designed to tackle pornography, but (as many civil liberties folks warned) adult and adult-ajacent content is on almost any user-driven site. This means that age-verification checks are now popping up on social media websites, like Facebook, BlueSky, X and Discord and even encyclopedias aren’t safe: for example, Wikipedia is slowly losing its fight against the U.K.’s Online Safety Bill.
